Electricity

Electrical outlets are the same as in the United States. Voltage: 110 volts. Frequency: 60 Hertz. Therefore, you must make sure you have an adapter with American flat plugs.

Water potability

While traveling in Bocas, it's best to drink bottled water. You can use it to rinse your mouth and cook. A drinking fountain is available on the terrace.

Mosquitos

The house doesn’t host many mosquitos, but there may be *chitras/sandflees. Having mosquito repellent is essential! Choose one preferably with D.I.P. or ask your pharmacist for advice about the most effective product. You can also find some for sale in local pharmacies. A selection of natural products is also available at home for additional protection.
*little microscopic bugs that sting.

Security

Bocas del Toro is safe. But like everywhere, it's essential to keep your safety in mind and take basic precautions. Do not wear big flashy jewelry and be discreet with your valuable electronic items.

Communication

Install the WhatsApp app on your phone. In Central America, almost all companies and individuals use it to communicate. It is free for international and local calls and works on Wi-Fi.

Clothes

Here it is hot all year round. No need to overload yourself with a large number of clothes! Bring hiking shoes, sandals, a waterproof jacket, long light pants, and a vest or a sweater for the more chilly among you (especially for the bus ride). Avoid suffering by wearing shoes that are too tight or stiletto heels. In Bocas, comfort is key. If you prefer to walk without shoes, feel free and know that barefoot is suitable here!

Weather

Does carpe diem ring a bell? If you are familiar with the concept, you are prepared! Otherwise, the Caribbean climate will teach you this beautiful life mantra. In Bocas, the weather is unpredictable! As seasons can help us get a general idea; each day is unique and original from a meteorological point of view. We don't recommend any online weather forecast website: most of the time, the weather is much better than expected... even if the opposite can be true! You should know that most weather data stations are located on the mainland of Bocas, while the archipelago has its own climate. So, if you wake up to a stormy morning, do not be discouraged: the sun likes to visit Bocas, and it shows up very often when you least expect it. For the rest, beautiful sunny days await you. Just know how to enjoy the present moment... And above all, don't forget: the sun is in our hearts!

What should I bring?

You can find a supermarket with basic food and care products 5 minutes walk from the house. Bring quality sunscreen with a 50+ sun protection factor. For the first few days, ensuring maximum protection will guarantee a pleasant stay without being charred.
